Here We Go Again...

Happy Monday.

I hope you enjoyed your weekend. Ours was quite busy.
On Saturday morning, I took Number One to Argos to pick up a game for his DS (as well as a Darth Vader costume, for him, not me!)
Since we were travelling to a different store, I decided to use my new SatNav. Well, he was in raptures, and got quite cross when he was interrupted by 'The Voice' - telling her she was rude. He then started repeating it, and told me that "In 300 yards you will reach your destiny"!

In the afternoon, we all went to see "Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat". It's about the third time I've seen it, but it was a pleasure to see the boys faces as the songs they know so well were brought to life on the stage.
In the evening, the two of us went to some friends in Warrington; but had to come home early, as Number One was suffering toothache.

On Sunday - his face was all swollen on the left side - an abcess. Great!
Antibiotics were obtained, and the day continued.
However, by about 4.30 he was well and truly drained - probably the late nights didn't help, but he was in bed and asleep before his baby brother (who was asleep by 6pm).

He woke again at about 9.30pm, and went to sleep in our bed. Which meant that I had to sleep in his bed.
This morning, I have not been able to shave, and feel a real scruff (probably look it too!)

Hopefully, he'll be well enough to go to school - I'll find out later.

I'm at work now, and beginning the last week of my secondment to this project. It'll be a shame to leave it, as I've built up quite a lot of knowledge. However, other projects are waiting.

TomTom

It arrived. Actually, it arrived on Monday, but there was no-one in to receive it, so the postman took it back to the sorting office.
My wife managed to pick it up today.

What am I talking about? The TomTom of course.

I bought it on Friday (on eBay) and it was sent Special Delivery - thanks to the seller for that.

So - I plugged it in, and off it went. It started up amazingly fast, it located itself quickly, and since I actually needed to go out, I followed the very intuitive menu to enter the destination. Then I set off, and checked to see if it would take me on the normal route.

Absolutely fantastic. It even predicted my arrival time.

I have just signed up for the free trial of the traffic service (where it tells you about jams), since I spend everyday on the M6 - so we'll see how that goes. I'm just not too sure about the GPRS costs involved, but we'll give it a try.

Right now, it's sat next to me, on the desk, plugged into the PC being charged up. I'll leave it overnight, and see how long the battery lasts tomorrow.

Chuffed - you could say that.

That Was The Weekend That Was

Well, here I am, back in the office on another Monday morning.

Don't the weekends just seem so short.

Anyway, yesterday the weather was beautiful, and in the afternoon, I got the kids bikes out from the garage, dusted them down (and pumped up the tyres) before setting off to Heaton Park. The fairground was in full swing, and the queue for the ice-cream van was about 15 deep. Both the boys got their confidence back with their cycling (although for some reason they don't like going up hill!!).

We caught up with Lost last night - it started last weekend, but we haven't had the chance to watch it. It's gripping stuff. I've also subscribed to the Official Lost podcast, with Iain Lee. It's a great way to understand some of the weird goings on and work out the connections. It's shown straight after 24, on Sky One, which is way too late for us, so we record it and watch it at a more reasonable time.

Talking of 24...

We then watched the latest episode last night. It's so over-the-top it's incredible, but makes for compulsive viewing. If you've been locked in a dark room for the last few years, we're on season 6 (which in 24 language means Day 6 - have a look at the website for information).

That's about it. I'm looking forward to receiving my e-mail from Tony Blair, about the motoring petition I signed - I'll let you know what it says.

Right now, it's back to work. So - have a great day.

I Found The Way

Following on from yesterdays' post about satnav; I am pleased to let you know that I plumped for the TomTom. I won a bid on eBay, and am now waiting to receive it.

It's the Mother-In-Laws birthday today (it's been a busy week!), so we bought a small cake and sang Happy Birthday. It's for the kids really - they enjoyed it.

The newest edition to the family is sleeping his way through life at the moment - although I did see his eyes last night. I think they're blue (but then all newborn babies have blue eyes).

Oh yes, and I've just uploaded another video to YouTube. This time it's my middle sons sports day from last summer- and if you fancy a good laugh, then this is for you.

Show Me The 'SatNav' Way

Right then. Are you sitting comfortably?

I've sold my iPAQ Mobile Media Companion (via eBay). Now I want to get a SatNav unit.
Don't ask me why. The car knows the way to work by itself, and I don't do a lot of travelling in areas I don't know.
But - I just fancy getting one. And since I've sold the PDA, I figure this isn't really going to cost me anything.

So, which one do I get? There are so many.

The one I've been looking at is the TomTom. The new version is really quite sleek, and the reviews are all very positive. But then some people say the mapping isn't as good as Garmin (which is a bit more expensive).

So, a dilemma. I think I'll plump for the TomTom. It looks easy to use, and can be used with a Bluetooth mobile to find traffic troublespots - therefore meaning a diversion can be used, and the unit will direct the way - allegedly.

I'm watching a couple on eBay - and I'll let you know. Feel free to point me in the right direction.
